Frequently Asked Questions about Evergreen Senior Living

What is the difference between assisted living and independent living?

An Assisted Living Residence is defined by the Assisted Living Federation of America as a special combination of housing, personalized supportive services and health care designed to meet the needs, both scheduled and unscheduled, of those who need help with activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, and monitoring medications. Evergreen Knoll Assisted Living can provide all of these services and more.

Evergreen Cottages is for independent seniors age 55 and above. Our cottages are designed for those seniors who desire the convenience of “no worry living” while having access to many social opportunities. Our cottages include all indoor and outdoor maintenance, and utilities, with the exception of telephone, included in the monthly cost.

Independent Living and Assisted living facilities vary greatly from one to the next, so be sure to shop around for what best fits your needs now and in the future.

Who needs assisted living?

Assisted Living is generally appropriate for anyone whose safety, security, comfort or future well-being is compromised by staying where they are, but who does not require the more intensive services offered in a nursing home. This includes, but is not limited to people who are feeling uncomfortable living on their own, have a poor appetite, have trouble with medications (taking, not taking, over medicating, not taking at appropriate times, etc.), have increased forgetfulness, are dependent on an outside source for day-to-day needs, lack socialization opportunities, cannot keep up with general housekeeping or maintenance, need transportation or may need help with bathing or hygiene.

Evergreen includes services to meet all of the above needs plus assistance with dressing, bed making, regular visits by nursing staff, reminders and redirection as needed, and help getting to and from meals and activities if needed.

Who pays for Evergreen Knoll, Assisted Living?

Anyone has the opportunity to live at Evergreen Knoll. We accept private pay, financial assistance and long-term care insurance as methods of payment to live at Evergreen Knoll. If desiring to use long-term care insurance, please be sure that your policy covers our type of facility.

Typically, assisted living is 2/3 to 1/2 less expensive than a nursing home. If you would like to learn more about whether you qualify for financial assistance, contact your county family services agency.
